Declaring a Minor

Please note that there are no prerequisites or application requirements for declaring an ICS minor. Non-ICS majors should reach out to an advisor in their School regarding any additional requirements or policies their School may have. If you decide to move forward with declaring a minor, you can request a degreeworks update from an advisor in the School of your major.

No, the School of ICS does not grant priority registration to non-ICS majors regardless if they have a declared ICS minor. Please check our Course Restrictions page to see when major restrictions will lift for non-majors.

A maximum of two courses may be taken for the Pass/Not Pass grade option toward any minor unless otherwise noted in the UCI Catalogue.

Some School of ICS major and minor combinations are not approved, as shown in the major minor restriction chart above. If you began attending UCI during the 2023-2024 school year or later (or if you have changed your catalogue year to 2023-2024 or later), then you may not count more than one course towards both an ICS major and minor. Those in prior catalogue years must have 5 unique courses that only count towards the minor requirements. To see the current Catalogue’s rules, please check the UCI Catalogue here.

To see your unique courses reflected on your degreeworks, please submit an ICS degreeworks update form on our Forms & Petitions page. Select “Update Minor Course Requirements” from the list of options, and list your unique courses in the justification section.

• Make sure to declare the minor and have it added to your degreeworks. It is also recommended to do a grad check with an ICS advisor to ensure that you are on track for graduation. 
• When you submit your graduation application, do not worry if your minor is not checked off. This will happen when we do our final graduation check and begin certifying degrees. If you meet the requirements for the minor by your last quarter, your minor will be certified with your degree.

No, your minor will not show up on your diploma. However, it will show up on your final transcript once your degree is certified.
